Cantonese opera is the pith and marrow of Chinese art and culture, and a gem of Hong Kong’s arts and culture. In response to Education Bureau’s arts education development policy on broadening students’ horizons and boosting students interest in Cantonese Opera perforating arts, the Kuk’s affiliated schools and social services units constantly hold Cantonese Opera training sessions and performances. The Kuk established the “Po Leung Kuk Cantonese Opera Fund” in 2012 with an aim to allow students and services users of the Kuk to enhance their knowledge in Cantonese Opera as well as its cultural meanings; and, through promoting the art, to also pass on the excellences of traditional Chinese culture, including the ethics and literature expressed within the plays of Cantonese Opera.
