Rustication

  • Rustication is a masonry technique found in classical architecture to create a texture contrasting  with smooth and plain surface.
  • The technique can be traced back to antiquity, but saw widespread application during the Renaissance and prevalent in the late 19th and early 20th century architecture.

  • The banded pattern on the walls of Main Building is an imitation of rustication to highlight the neat and systematic classical architecture.
