Rustication
- Rustication is a masonry technique found in classical architecture to create a texture contrasting with smooth and plain surface.
The technique can be traced back to antiquity, but saw widespread application during the Renaissance and prevalent in the late 19th and early 20th century architecture.
The banded pattern on the walls of Main Building is an imitation of rustication to highlight the neat and systematic classical architecture.
