Curriculum

The Kuk attaches great importance to child-centered education to accommodate the individual differences among its students. Children can learn at their own pace by selecting the learning activities according to their abilities and interests, which are conducted under teachers' guidance and self-directed learning alternatively or simultaneously. The teaching design is based on the entire school as a whole and is no longer limited to a single classroom; the learning-rich environment encourages children to explore and learn independently, so as to achieve comprehensive and balanced development. 

The Kuk child care service adopts an integrated teaching method along with the thematic approach in pre-school education, with content covers six major Learning Areas, including language, early childhood mathematics, nature and living, arts and creativity, self and society, and physical fitness and health. Versatile extra-curricular activities are arranged for students to enrich real-life learning experience and widen their horizons. 

With toys and games elements, children can practice different learning aspects such as language, mathematical concepts, science and technology, and logical thinking through the use of the teaching aids. From "learning by doing" and "learning through play", to consolidate their studies. 

Peer interactions construct more opportunities for younger children to mimic the older students on problem solving and improves their learning efficiency.  The scaffolding effect stimulates children's language development, and facilitate their social skills with mutual respect when getting along with others.

The school adopts "Space Approach" in teaching to cultivate children’s self-directed and self-motivated learning attitudes. 

The classrooms are divided into 4 learning zones, including: 

• Expressive Communication Zone
• Exploration Zone
• Visual Arts Zone
• Music & Physical Movement Zone

Apply real-life context and meaningful learning activities to enhance children’s interests in language learning and their presentation and communication abilities. 

Arouse children’s interests in nature, mathematics and science, cultivate their eagerness to explore, establish logical thinking and problem-solving skills. 

Instruct children to utilize materials with different tactile sensations and textures during art activities, empower them to unleash their creativity, express personal feelings and develop their aesthetic sensibility. 

Organize a wide variety of music activities and dramas to study different music and perform physical movement creations, in order to increase children's creativity and imagination. 

Carry out various physical activities, skills training and group games to train up the gross-motor coordination. 

Cross-disciplinary learning will be carried out according to the monthly learning theme amongst each zone. 

2022/2023

Objective:

To  extend positive  education to "respect the environment ". Based on the education on caring for the nature, aiming to establish the attitude of gratitude and cherishing in children, and guide them to practice simple living daily life.

• For Teachers :

  Promote environment education in school by conducting seminars and workshops to observe and explore the nature.

• For Children :

    Arouse children's environmental awareness via the experience of planting. By learning how to sow, fertilize and harvest, enabling children to enjoy the wonderful nature and thereby nurture their caring attitude towards the natural world. 

• For Parents :

  Invite parents to join the "Family Charter' to seek for their recognition and understanding towards the idea of "living a green and simple life", and extend the concept of environmental protection from school to home. 

2023/2024

Objective:

Our primary objectives are to enhance young children's self-confidence and increase their enthusiasm for learning through a range of engaging Chinese cultural activities. 

This will involve introducing young children to different various aspects of Chinese cultural arts and the customs of different ethnic groups. They will be exposed to activities such as Chinese dance, Cantonese opera masks and costumes, ink painting, paper-cutting, and dietary customs, among others. Through these experience, young children will get the chance to explore their own country's rich traditional culture and develop a sense of national identity.

Reading materials related to Chinese history, traditional stories, and stories of famous figures will also be provided. 

• For Teachers :

     We will provide teachers with opportunities to deepen their understanding of Chinese culture and improve

their teaching skills through training sessions, involving in designing festival celebrations and  performances, as well as creating interactive spaces dedicated to Chinese culture.

• For Children :

      By engaging in various activities and interacting with Chinese cultural arts, we aim to increase young children's enthusiasm for learning and enhance their self-confidence.

• For Parents :

      By participation in various parent-child activities and workshops related to Chinese culture, parents can deepen their understanding of Chinese customs and traditions. This will not only enrich their knowledge and parenting skills, but also contribute to ehancing the self-confidence of young children.

2024/2025

Objective:

Through diversified activities and Chinese cultural arts activities, enhance young children's ability to face difficulties and challenges with a positive attitude, and express their personal emotions in different ways.

• For Teachers :

     Improve teachers' methods and techniques for fostering positive emotions in young children and handling their emotions, and implement these in daily teaching practices.

• For Children :

      Through participation in various forms of activities, enhance young children's use of positive methods to express emotions and build positive psychological qualities to face different challenges and difficulties.

• For Parents :

      Strengthen parents' mindset of positive parenting, helping them recognize the importance of positive education for the physical and mental development of young children.

Objectives

• To help children learn about our country and Chinese culture, and to nurture a sense of belonging towards our country.
• To cultivate a sense of belonging towards country and a sense of national identity among children.
• To teach children to become good citizens who abide by the law, take good care of public property, respect and care for others.

Introduction

• Learn Chinese culture and traditional festivals, such as Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese New Year and Dragon Boat Festival through stories, rhymes and songs so that traditional customs can be inherited.
• Through art activities such as Chinese ink painting, Chinese engraving, Chinese traditional paper cutting and food customs, so that children can have a basic understanding of the Chinese culture and their national identity.

1. Chinese Lunar New Year & Costume Party

Objective: To cultivate a sense of belonging towards country and a sense of national identity among children. 

Introduction: Through traditional Chinese celebration activities, children can experience their country’s culture and gradually establish their identity as Chinese.

2. Dragon Boat Festival Celebration

Objective: To help children learn about our country and Chinese culture, and to nurture a sense of belonging towards our country.

Introduction: Through stories and games, children can explore the significance, customs, and celebration practices of the Dragon Boat Festival, thereby carrying forward Chinese cultural heritage.

3. Chinese Dance Activity

Objective: To help children learn about our country and Chinese culture, and develop an appreciation for the beauty of Chinese tradition.

Introduction: By exploring the dances of different ethnic groups in China, children can experience their country’s traditional culture and gradually establish their identity as Chinese.

4. Lion Dance Activity 

Objective: To help children personally experience traditional Chinese art, feel and appreciate the diversity and charm of Chinese culture, and develop a sense of national identity.

Introduction: Through learning and participating in Chinese lion dance activities, children can cultivate respect for and appreciation of traditional Chinese culture.

Introduction: Through experiential learning activities, children can explore traditional Chinese musical instruments and costumes, fostering an appreciation of their country’s culture and art.

3. Dragon Boat Festival Celebration

Objective: To help children learn about their country and Chinese culture, cultivate respect and care for others, and grow into responsible citizens.

Introduction: Through stories, games, and experiential activities, children can explore the significance, customs, and celebrations of the Dragon Boat Festival and to feel and experience their country’s traditional culture.

4. Visit Law Uk Folk Museum Activity

Objective: To help children develop a preliminary understanding of traditional customs, fostering a sense of belonging towards country and a sense of national identity among children.

Introduction: By visiting the Law Uk Folk Museum, children can gain insights into the daily life and customs of the Hakka people.

1. Lunar New Year Fair Activities On Compus

Objective: To cultivate children’s understanding of traditional Chinese festivals and deepen their appreciation of traditional culture.

Introduction: By setting up a Lunar New Year market, the school enables children to learn about and experience Lunar New Year customs and traditional foods, while immersing themselves in the lively atmosphere of the Chinese New Year through interactive activities.

2. Dragon Boat Festival Celebration

Objective: To help children understand the origins of the Dragon Boat Festival and foster a sense of belonging and pride in Chinese culture.

Introduction: By learning about the history and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival and participating in interactive activities such as wrapping rice dumplings and dragon boat racing, children can experience the traditional culture of the festival.

3. Chinese Dance Activity

Objective: To help children appreciate and learn traditional Chinese dances, fostering a stronger recognition with Chinese culture.

Introduction: By exploring the dances of various ethnic groups in China, children can deepen their understanding of the origins and distinctive features of these dances, while experiencing the cultural essence conveyed through these dances.

4. Lion Dance & Martial Art Activities

Objective: Children can experience traditional Chinese art firsthand, deepening their appreciation of Chinese culture.

Introduction: Through traditional art experiences such as lion dance and martial arts, children can learn lion dance movements and martial arts skills, while gaining a deeper appreciation of the uniqueness and charm of Chinese culture.
